PNG vs JPEG vs WebP: choose a format for your image
JPEG suits many photos, PNG supports lossless graphics and transparency, and WebP supports lossy or lossless images and transparency.

What each format does well
JPEG uses lossy compression and is widely used for photographs. It does not preserve transparency. PNG is lossless and supports alpha transparency, making it useful for logos, screenshots, and graphics with sharp edges. WebP supports both lossy and lossless compression, as well as transparency. The smallest result depends on the actual image and settings; there is no format that always wins.

The converter below is the same working tool available in the image directory. Export copies in two formats and compare their appearance and byte sizes at the size you will actually use.
Choose a JPG, PNG, WebP, or supported AVIF source.
Select an output format and quality setting where available.
Download the result, compare it with the source, and keep the version that meets your visual and compatibility needs.
Watch for transparency
Converting a transparent PNG to JPEG needs an opaque background because JPEG cannot store alpha transparency. If you need a transparent result, choose PNG or WebP. Animation is outside this converter’s supported workflow; check the preview before using a converted asset in production.
